Walter Lyle Mileham

Walter Lyle Mileham, age 87, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Dr. Beverlee Bell officiating.  Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 on Friday, August 18, 2006 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00. 

Walter Lyle Mileham was born April 5, 1919 in Cornell, Iowa, the son of Walter Hampton and Minnie Eveline (Squires) Mileham. He graduated from Garfield Consolidated School in 1937. On February 8, 1941, Lyle was married to Helen J. (Jenora) Johnson at the United Methodist Church in Spencer, Iowa. The couple was blessed with five children: Lana, Sharon, Gary, Susan and Walter, Jr. (“Butch”).

In 1952, Lyle and his family moved to Storm Lake, where he was employed with HyGrade Foods. The family moved to Newell, Iowa later, but returned to Storm Lake in 1967. Walter was with HyGrade for 22 years before he retired. He was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Jewel Masonic Lodge #309 in Storm Lake, Sioux City Consistory/Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and OES in Newell. Lyle enjoyed sports, baseball and basketball in particular. He also liked to fish and enjoyed gardening. His family was always his first priority and he treasured the time he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Left to cherish Lyle’s memory are his wife of 65 years, Helen, of Storm Lake; daughter Lana (Bill) Crilly of Essex, Iowa; daughter Sharon (Bob) King of Des Moines, Iowa; son Gary (Marlys) Mileham of Sylvania, Ohio; daughter Susan Erichsen of Norfolk, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Dorothea Edleman of Spencer, Iowa; Marjorie Jean (Thomas) Niebauer of Mason City, Iowa, and Neva Ora (Kenneth) Ruble of Ruthven, Iowa; extended family and many friends.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Walter Lyle Mileham, Jr.; eight brothers and sisters; and a granddaughter, Tamara Lynn Mileham.
