Wilbert F. Jenkins
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 21, 2006 at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake with Reverend Steve Schulz officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Denison with Military Honors by the VFW Post #8 of Denison Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Wilbert F. Jenkins was born February 13, 1918, near Woodbine, Iowa, the son of William and Mary Helen (Holcomb) Jenkins. He was raised on a farm near Dow City, Iowa. Wilbert received his education in rural and Dow City High School, graduating in 1937. After graduation, he worked as a farm hand until entering the United States Army in September 1942. He served in the medical section of 841st Engineer Aviation Battalion in the South Pacific for 32 months, receiving his honorable discharge on January 16, 1946. He was united in marriage to Marcella Borgstahl on May 18, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children. “Bert” as he was known, took up a lifetime career as a meat cutter and market manager in various companies and due to transfer, lived in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. He was manager of the meat department for Randalls Super Value in Huron, South Dakota for 18 years. In October 1979, Bert retired. He and Marcella moved to Coeur D’Alene, Idaho where they lived for 12 years, moving to Storm Lake in August 1991. Bert was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. He was also a member of the VFW. Over the years, Bert found much enjoyment in fishing, gardening and visiting with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Linda Marie; five brothers: Jess, Layrette, Eugene, Rule and Ancil; and one sister Helen Lyman. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marcella of Storm Lake; son David Jenkins and his wife Patty of Brandon, South Dakota; daughter Marsha Brooks of Sturgis, South Dakota; four grandchildren: Joseph A. Jenkins of Brandon, South Dakota, John P. Jenkins of Brandon, South Dakota, Melissa Brooks of Bonner Springs, Kansas and Carrie Allen and her husband Jamey of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; three great grandchildren: Ashton, Alexis and Ava Allen of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; one brother, Romanan Jenkins and his wife Evelyn of Odebolt, Iowa; two sisters-in-law Joanne Jenkins of Denison, Iowa and Edith Jenkins of Woodbine, Iowa; nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends. |
