Velma (Vee) Liechti, age 92, of Newell, Iowa died Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Newell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 2006 at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell.  Burial will follow at Newell Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell.

Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to service time.

Velma Schmidt was born February 3, 1914 in Newell, Iowa to Petrea and Nis (Jensen) Schmidt.  She was baptized into the Lutheran faith at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell and later confirmed her faith at that same church as a youth. Vee received her education in the Newell community; it is known she attended country school, however record of her schooling after that is unclear.  

In November of 1937, Vee was united in marriage to Roy Liechti.  She was a lifelong, faithful member of Nain Lutheran, where she was a Sunday School teacher in earlier years. Vee loved children and was a special aunt to her nieces and nephews.  She will be remembered as a good-natured, caring person by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are two nieces, two nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews; extended family and friends. Vee was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; her only brother, Peter; and four sisters: Maria, Rebecca, Otillia and Edith.
