Vergil Adams
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church in Galva with Reverend Paul Egger officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Galva with military rites presented by the Galva American Legion. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Friends may call on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Galva, where family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00. Vergil Rex Adams was born in Dalton, Nebraska, on December 12, 1918 to Oscar and Ethel (Neal) Adams. Vergil received his education in the rural schools of Nebraska and South Dakota. He served his country from 1940-1945 during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific islands. Vergil married Ruth Volkert on December 22, 1945, at the Lutheran parsonage in Cushing, Iowa. They raised a son, Paul and a daughter, Patty on their farm north of Galva. He farmed for 39 years and retired in 1984. He continued to live on the farm until his death. He enjoyed driving truck, golfing and dancing. Vergil was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Galva, where he held many offices. Survivors include his wife of nearly 61 years, Ruth, of Galva; a son, Paul and wife Marilyn of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; a daughter, Patty and husband Paul Sneller of Sioux Center, Iowa; four grandchildren: Amy (Tad) Schauer of Lake Park, Minnesota; Sam (Steph) Adams of Decatur, Alabama; John Sneller of Sioux Center; and Luke Sneller of Ceder Falls, Iowa; four great grandchildren: Thomas, Matthew, Anne and Mark Schauer; one sister, Erma Prinz of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters-in-law, Florence Adams of Spokane, Washington and Ina Volkert of Holstein, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and friends. Vergil was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; and four brothers-in-law. |
