Robert Shewell

Robert E. Shewell, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Thursday, September 28, 2006 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 2, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Tom Hinshaw officiating.  Interment will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake.  The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Sunday, October 1, 2006 from 4:00–8:00 p.m., where family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00.

Robert Eugene Shewell was born April 26, 1927 at Muncie, Indiana to Alvi William and Ossie (Rook) Shewell.  He received his first six years of education in Muncie, Indiana until the family moved to Storm Lake in September of 1940.  At that time, Robert continued his education in Storm Lake, through three years of high school.

Robert served his country in the United State Army during World War II, as a T/5 Radio Repairman 16th Const. Sq Infantry.  He received his honorable discharge on November 22, 1946.

On October 24, 1947, Robert was united in marriage to Margalet Eileen Peterson at the Baptist Church in Storm Lake. They were blessed with two children, Thomas and Connie.

Robert was a member of the Baptist Church in Storm Lake.  He worked for 31 years at Hygrade-Kingon and seven years at Buena Vista Manor, until his retirement in 1990.  Robert found great pleasure playing golf and wood working. 

Above all, Robert treasured his family and the time he spent with them. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, who took special pride in his grandsons and their achievements and he dearly loved his great-granddaughter Ella Marie. His presence will be missed in the lives of all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Margalet of Storm Lake; son, Thomas Shewell and wife Rhonda of Talmoon, Minnesota; daughter, Connie Shewell-Kahnke and husband Mike of Storm Lake; grandsons: Scott Kahnke and wife Sharon of Apple Valley, Minnesota and Michael Kahnke of Kalona, Iowa; great-granddaughter Ella Marie Kahnke of Apple Valley, Minnesota; one sister Jessie Shewell-Carlson and husband Robert of Two Harbors, Minnesota; many other family members and a host of friends and colleagues.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ossie.
