Dr. Robert Richardson

Dr. Robert Richardson, age 82, longtime Storm Lake, Iowa resident, died Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at the Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 11:00 at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend David Koehler officiating.  Burial will follow at the Storm Lake Cemetery.  The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Friday evening, February 17, 2006 from 6-8:00 pm, where family will greet friends.

Robert William Richardson was born April 26, 1923 in Davenport, Iowa to Ray and Winifred (Simpson) Richardson. He spent his youth in the Davenport area, where he attended school and graduated from Davenport High School in 1941. Robert continued his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and then at Northern Illinois College of Optometry, from which he graduated as an optometrist in 1950.

Robert served his country in the United States Army from 1943 until he was honorably discharged in 1946. During World War II, he was a Prisoner of War in Germany.

On January 4, 1948, Robert was united in marriage to Anna Darline Brown at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. The couple was blessed with three sons: Gary, Ray and Mark and one daughter, Deborah.

Robert and his family were long-time residents of Storm Lake, where Dr. Richardson was an optometrist until his retirement in 1997. He enjoyed working with wood and stained glass, and radio-controlled airplanes.

Dr. Richardson was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake and held various office and memberships within the church over the years. He was a charter member of the Storm Lake Lions Club where he held numerous offices, including district governor.  He was a past chairman of what is now the Iowa Lions Foundation. Robert was also a member of the Masonic Lodges in Storm Lake and Alta, Iowa.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Gary and wife Dianne Richardson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Ray and wife Barb Richardson of Omaha, Nebraska; and Mark and wife LaAnn Richardson of Deer Park, Texas; daughter Deborah and husband Chris Baber of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren: Mike Richardson of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Mary Yeoman of Des Moines, Iowa; Erin Utter of Davenport, Iowa; Stephanie Richardson, Sarah Richardson and Jonathan Richardson of Omaha, Nebraska; Daniel Richardson and Jamie Richardson of Deer Park, Texas; Megan Baber and Marshall Baber of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Benjamin Richardson and Elizabeth “Betsy” Richardson of Fort Dodge, Iowa; brother Clarence Richardson of Storm Lake, Iowa; sister Norma Godfrey of Hilo, Hawaii; extended family and many friends.

Preceding Robert in death were his parents, Ray B. and Winifred Richardson; and his wife, Anna Darline Richardson.
