Ralph “Sid” Harrington
Funeral services will be Monday, July 3, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend David Koehler officiating. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery in Storm Lake. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Friends may call on Sunday, July 2, 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00. Ralph Sidney Harrington was born November 22, 1927 in Red Cloud, Nebraska. He graduated from Hastings, Nebraska High School. Sid joined the United States Navy and served during the ending months of World War II before being honorably discharged. On June 18, 1950, Sid was united in marriage to Vivian Andersen of Laurel, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with three children, Rick, Randy and Rhonda. Sid worked as a surveyor and eventually became a Civil Engineer for the State of Nebraska Highway Department. In 1963, he began his business career in bowling in Independence, Iowa, and remained in the bowling and bar business until his retirement in 2002. Sid thoroughly enjoyed football and never missed a Nebraska Cornhusker game on the radio or TV. He never liked computers, but eventually gave way and spent much of his last few years on the computer, conversing with friends via email and enjoying the jokes he and his friends passed along to one another. He loved to travel. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Vivian, of Storm Lake; son Rick and wife Natalia of Fort Dodge, Iowa; son Randy and wife Ronda of Storm Lake; daughter Rhonda and husband Paul Lussman of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Ryanne and Rylee Harrington of Storm Lake and Alex and Michail Markov of Fort Dodge; one brother, Bob Harrington of Columbus, Nebraska; three sisters: Bonnie Farrell of Woodbridge, Virginia; Ann Strother of Anchorage, Alaska; and Della McCoy of Denver, Colorado; as well as extended family and a host of friends. Sid was preceded in death by his parents, brother Al Harrington, and his granddaughter, Katie Duff. |
