Orval W. Wilbur

Orval W. Wilbur, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Monday, August 21, 2006 at his home.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 25, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church with Reverend Bruce Lawler officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post #6172 of Alta.  The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Thursday, August 24, 2006 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where there will be a Legion of Mary Rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.

Orval  Walter Wilbur was born July 12, 1917 in Webb, Iowa, the son of Horace and Flossie (Blair) Wilbur.  He was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, where he was also confirmed.  Orval received his education in the Linn Grove School, graduating from Linn Grove High School in 1934. On December 27, 1948, Orval was united in marriage to Delma Schuler at Texarkana, Arkansas. The couple was blessed with three children, Mary, Tom and Mike.

Orval was a devoted husband and father. He was a lifelong, faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, a member of Lake Creek Country Club near Storm Lake, and of the V.F.W. in Alta. Orval enjoyed bowling in the couples league and was an avid golfer. He also proudly served his country in the military during World War II.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Mary (Clyde) Wandrey of Schaller, Iowa; sons Tom (Anne) Wilbur of Orono, Minnesota; and Mike (Kathy) Wilbur of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Mike (Stephanie) Wandrey; Chris (Jona) Wandrey; Justin (Jackie) Wandrey; Lynn (Mike) Wattier; Dylan Wilbur; Steven (Stava) Wilbur; Mike (Megan) Wilbur; great-grandchildren: Jessica, Colt, Taylor, Caden, Jordan, Abigail, Jack, Ely; sister Jane (Bob) Kluth of Lincoln, Nebraska; extended family and a host of friends.

Orval was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delma; two sisters, Helen and Elma; and his step-mother, Lyle Wilbur.
