Marjorie Jean Turnquist was born on November 18, 1925 on a farm near Marathon, daughter of Gust and Hattie (Lutter) Turnquist. She attended Lincoln-Lee rural school, graduating in 1943. As a single lady, she worked as a telephone operator in Sioux City. Her husband-to-be, Glenn L. Madsen, born May 25, 1923 in Newell, Iowa, enlisted into the Navy in December 1944 and was stationed in Gulfport, Mississippi. Marjorie took a train to join him and they were married July 28, 1945. They were later stationed at Minneapolis before Glenn’s honorable discharge in 1946. They returned to Iowa and began farming in Fonda for 4 years, then farming in the Linn Grove and Rembrandt area until retirement in 1978. She recently moved into a new home on the farm near Rembrandt and loved watching the progress and being in the new house. She attended the Presbyterian Church in Linn Grove and had strong faith in the Lord, praying for her family members everyday. She had a great love for her family, especially children. She was passionate about farm life as weather, plantings and harvestings were often the topic of discussion. She also enjoyed a good joke—even practical jokes. Marjorie is survived by a daughter Carol Goodwin and her husband Keith of Correctionville, Iowa; son David Madsen of Rembrandt, Iowa; granddaughter Jen Derksen and her husband Steve of Blumenort, Manitoba; grandson Jason Goodwin and his wife Brooke of Correctionville, Iowa; four great-grandchildren: Jessica, Tyler, Harley and Tristan Derksen; sister Maxine Schomaker of Cedar Falls, Iowa; brother- and sister-in-law, Ernie and Vivian Madsen of Pocahontas, Iowa; sister-in-law Judy Madsen of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother- and sister-in-law Kenny and Marthann Madsen of Pasadena, Texas; and many other family members and a host of friends. Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, two brothers: Lyle and Lawrence Turnquist, brother-in-law Clair Schomaker and brother-in-law Robert Madsen. |
