Kay Grau
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 20th, at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. Burial will be at the Newell Cemetery under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 19th at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. Kay was born on November 24, 1935, in Marathon, Iowa the daughter of William and Ruth (Petersen) Raper. In 1948 she was baptized in the Methodist faith. Kay attended schools in Marathon, graduating in 1954. She was united in marriage to Holger V. Grau on December 20, 1954, in the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. To this union two children Harlan and Kristi were born. Kay was a homemaker and stay-at-home Mom who loved to take care of her family along with all the operations of the family farm. It could be said that the farm always took top priority. . She retired from her farm duties and farm bookkeeping in 1986 when they moved into Newell. Survivors include her son Harlan V. Grau and his wife Sharon of Newell and her son-in-law, Robert Emmick and his wife Sue, of Omaha, Nebraska : along with two grandsons, Jason Emmick and Cameron Emmick both of Omaha. Other survivors include, two brothers and their wives: Mick and Delores Raper of Marathon and Jerry and Marge Raper of Ashville, North Carolina: and her two sisters and their husbands, Jeanne and Bob Branstetter of Okeechobee, Florida and Gayle and Dennis Goeders of Emmetsburg. Kay’s two brothers-in-law and their wives: Solon and Marge Grau of Ames and Leo and Berniece Grau of Storm Lake and two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Stilling and her husband Richard of Northridge, California and Ardyth Barber of Okoboji; and her many nieces and nephews also survivor her. Her parents, William and Ruth Raper; husband, Holger; and daughter, Kristi Emmick preceded her in death. |
