Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Wednesday, February 15, 2006, where the family will be present from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Margaret Elaine Holben was born August 23, 1921 in Pisgah, Iowa, the daughter of the late John and Tessie (Jones) Holben. She attended Pisgah High School where she was Valedictorian of her graduating class. Elaine then went on to graduate from the Sioux City School of Business in 1940. As a young person, she was an accomplished singer and played the organ for church services. Elaine met Sherman Archie Page at a Civilian Conservation Corps dance in Soldier, Iowa. They were married shortly thereafter in August of 1941. The couple later moved to Storm Lake, where they purchased the local bakery and Elaine spent her time decorating cakes. Page’s Storm Lake Bakery thrived under their ownership for the next 15 years before they sold the business to their son, Brent. Following Elaine and Sherm’s “retirement,” Elaine opened Page by Page Bookstore in Storm Lake, a perfect place to combine Elaine’s business acumen and her passion for reading. She was an avid fan of college basketball and loved all dogs, but especially her dogs, Sally and Lilly. Of all the accomplishments in Elaine’s life, she was most proud of her family, each of whom she treasured. Her children and grandchildren will remember her as always going above and beyond duty’s call. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Elaine is survived by her five sons: Sherman Douglas and special friend Peg of Alta; Gregory and wife Patricia of West Des Moines, Iowa; Charles Kirk and wife Lisa of Fon du Lac, Wisconsin; Brent and wife Karen of Storm Lake; and Scott and wife Jeanne of Fon du Lac, Wisconsin; 15 grandchildren: Sherman David and wife Gena of Chicago, Illinois; Sarah Verrips and husband Larry of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Jenifer Sliefer and husband Trent of Phoenix, Arizona; Maria Witt and husband Jason of Phoenix, Arizona; Sherri Nichols and husband Marc of Eagan, Minnesota; Liz Page and husband Zaki of Portland, Oregon; Logan, Andy and Sean Page of Fon du Lac, Wisconsin; Courtney Engelson and husband Davin of Chicago, Illinois; Tyler Page of Iowa City, Iowa; Andrew Barnett of Iowa City, Iowa; Brian Barnett and wife Stacey of Joplin, Missouri; and Zach and Nicholas Page of Fon du Lac, Wisconsin; eight great-grandchildren: Noah and Max Page, Alex and Abbie Verrips, Trey, Jack and Dylan Page, and Mia Witt; as well as extended family and a host of friends. Preceding Elaine in death were her parents and her husband of 47 years, Sherm Page. |
