Charles LaDon McDonough

Charles LaDon McDonough, age 88, of Schaller, Iowa died on Friday, August 4, 2006 at his home in rural Schaller.

Funeral Service for Charles “LaDon” McDonough of Schaller will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Schaller Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Cook Center Cemetery in Rural Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be Sunday from 6-8 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller.

LaDon was born December 2, 1917 on the family farm in rural Schaller to Charley and Ethel (Gilmour) McDonough. He received his education in Odebolt and graduated with the class of 1935. He entered service to his country in the United States Army on July 8th of 1942 and served through May 31, 1943.

On December 21, 1944, LaDon was united in marriage to Ruthann Potter at the First Presbyterian Church in Schaller. They were blessed with three children: John, Jim and Jean. LaDon was a farmer who lived his life working the land. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, as well as, a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a Trustee within the church.

LaDon took special pleasure later in life traveling and surveying the crops. He was also an avid sports fan. A loving husband and devoted father, LaDon treasured every moment he spent with his family. His caring presence will be dearly missed by his family and friends every day.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Ruthann of Schaller; son John (Norma) McDonough of Early, Iowa; son Jim (Cathy) McDonough of Schaller; daughter Jean McDonough of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren: Michele (Jason) Ronfeldt of Schaller; Melanie Currie of Schaller; Mike McDonough of Schaller; Mark McDonough of Schaller; Jacob, Kris and Jennifer Anspach of Cedar Rapids; step grandchildren: Cindy (Dan) Schroeder of Odebolt, Iowa; Rick (Sue) Thies of Sac City, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Kayla, Tasha and Austin Ronfeldt; Kaitlyn Currie; Courtney Pyle; step great-grandchildren: Travis and Chelsea Schroeder; Justin and Kyle Thies; Kyle and Ashley Ellis; Amanda Thies; Dallas and Melinda Thies; sisters-in-law Inez McDonough of Sac City and Kay Creel of Kettering, Ohio; brothers-in-law Jim (Marlys) Potter of Ames, Iowa; Don (Connie) Potter of Sioux City; extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Margaret Helming; brothers Howard and Clyde; daughter-in-law Joyce McDonough; step great-granddaughter Heather Schroeder; and step grandson Randy Thies.
