Cecil Edward Barlow was born February 15, 1929 in Storm Lake, Iowa to William and Anna (Merten) Barlow. He was baptized on May 7, 1944 and confirmed on May 14, 1944, a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller.

Cecil began his education at the Truesdale and Hayes Township country schools before attending classes in Schaller. He graduated from Schaller High School with the Class of 1947.

On October 3, 1952, Cecil was united in marriage to Virginia Joslin at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller. They were blessed with two sons, Jay and Mitchell. He was production manager for a local seed company until his “formal” retirement on March 1, 1994. Cecil enjoyed a second career selling automobiles—Fords—after he retired.

Cecil enjoyed people and gave much back to his community. He was an honorary member of 33 years’ standing in the Schaller Volunteer Fire Department. He liked to fish and hunt. Cecil found great enjoyment in attending his grandchildren’s baseball game. He could always be found in the same seat, with advice at the ready for the players. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather who treasured his family and the time he spent with them. His presence will be missed daily by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Virginia, of Schaller; his sons: Jay and wife Julie Barlow of Schaller and Mitchell and wife Julie Barlow of Schaller; grandchildren: Carl Barlow, Kyle Barlow, Marcus Barlow, Adam Barlow, Garrett Barlow and Brittany Barlow; brother Chuck and wife Pat Barlow of Schaller; sister Marjorie and husband Tom Ruhberg of Lake Carol, Illinois; sister Betty and husband Dick Frank of Schaller; sister Darlene Gilson of Cheyenne, Wyoming; extended family and a host of friends.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Barlow; and his brother-in-law, Harry Gilson.
