Arnold Wunder, Sr.
Funeral Services for Mr. Wunder are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Jamie Cutler officiating. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery, where Full Military Rites will be accorded by Alta VFW Post 6172. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2006 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Arnold Herman Wunder was born August 30, 1912 to Herman W. and Alvena (Meves) Wunder on a farm near Shelby, Iowa. He attended country school near Walnut, Iowa before his family moved to the Harlan, Iowa area. A member of the National Honor Society, Arnold graduated from Harlan High School with the Class of 1930. On July 18, 1932, Arnold was married to Laura Hazel Oaks in Pipestone, Minnesota. They were blessed with a son, Arnold, Jr. on May 11, 1933. In April of 1943, Arnold joined the United States Navy and served during World War II. Nine months of his duty was discharged on Okinawa. He was honorably discharged during December of 1945. Arnold came back home to his family and his business, Wunder Tires, in Storm Lake, Iowa. He owned and operated the tire business for 37 years before he retired in September 1977. Arnold was active in his community. He was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church, Masons, Oddfellows, Kiwanis Gold Key Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6172 of Alta, as well as a past Grand Counselor of U.C.T. of Iowa. Arnold and Hazel enjoyed 12 years of traveling and they spent their retirement years wintering in Arizona. Arnold was an avid antique collector and he enjoyed card playing. Survivors include his son, Arnold (Joni) Wunder, Jr. of Storm Lake; brothers Leo Wunder and Victor (Mildred) Wunder; grandchildren Vicki (Allen) Fugate, Lynda (Jeff) Booth, Lisa (Dan) Shull, Laura (James Christenson) Wunder and Holly (Walter) Rentsch; great-grandchildren: Kathryn Wunder, Laura Fugate, Ellie Fugate, Jordyn Booth, Joshua Shull, Taylor Shull, Carly Christenson, Hunter Christenson, Piper Christenson, Adam Rentsch, Sarah Rentsch and Hanna Rentsch; extended family and friends. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Herman W. and Alvena Wunder; his beloved wife, Laura Hazel Wunder; his younger brother, Edmund, who was lost at sea during World War II; younger brother Herman; older brother Albert; and his older sister, Ann Paulson. |
