Alberta Thomsen, age 76, of Newell, Iowa, died Sunday, May 28, 2006 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 1, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Newell United Methodist Church, with Pastor David Schumann officiating. Honorary casketbearers were Matt Thomsen, Mike Thomsen, and Ed Thomsen. Active bearers were Todd Biggins, Chad Biggins, Curt Westergaard, Chris Westergaard, Eric Purhmann and Josh Watkins.

Burial will be at a later date. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call anytime after 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell, where family will be present.

Alberta Louise Kaskadden was born February 14, 1930 at home in What Cheer, Iowa, to Mildred Mae (Moore) Kaskadden and Benjamin Franklin Kaskadden. To this union a brother, Benjamin Franklin Kaskadden, Jr. was also born. Alberta was blessed with two other brothers, Edward Leroy Fox and Norman Eugene Fox. She attended rural schools and completed her schooling at the Barnes City School.

Alberta was united in marriage to Eggert Andrew Thomsen on September 14, 1946 and moved to Newell, Iowa where she lived the rest of her life. To this union Donna Mae Thomsen was born October 19, 1947; followed by Donald Andrew Thomsen on October 17, 1949; Rex Edward Thomsen on October 17, 1952; Ruth Louise Thomsen on October 17, 1953; Susan Kay Thomsen on August 2, 1957; and Shirley Jane Thomsen on February 2, 1959.

You would always find her at home in the kitchen cooking and baking for her family, collecting recipes, taking care of her numerous plants and flowers, gardening, bird and nature watching, reading, and taking care of her home, children, and grandchildren. She also loved to fish and picnic at Storm Lake.

Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Edward Fox, Sr. of Storm Lake, and grandson Philip Thomsen of Scottville, Michigan.

Alberta is survived by her husband Eggert Thomsen of Newell; children: Donna and Keith Biggins of Storm Lake; Don Thomsen of Delray Beach, Florida; Rex and Sharon Thomsen of Scottville, Michigan; Ruth Westergaard of Newell; Susan and Mark Puhrmann of Newell; Shirley Watkins of Laurens; grandchildren: Todd Biggins of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Chad Biggins and Beth Ayala of Lakewood, Colorado; Amy and Ted Bokolas of Deerfield Beach, Florida; Matt Thomsen and Kim Costa of Deerfield Beach, Florida; Carrie Thomsen of Deerfield Beach, Florida; Mike Thomsen of Deerfield Beach, Florida; Ed and Sarah Thomsen of Allegan, Michigan; Cindy Thomsen of Scottville, Michigan; Cheri and Jason Erickson of Zuschi, Japan; Curt Westergaard of Newell; Chris Westergaard of Newell; Eric Puhrmann of Newell; Erin Puhrmann of Newell; Jessica Watkins of Laurens; Josh Watkins of Laurens; great-grandchildren: Johnny and Gabe Bokolas of Deerfield Beach, Florida; Hunter Thomsen of Deerfield Beach, Florida; Anthony Thomsen of Allegan, Michigan; Caleb and Ethan Erickson of Zuschi, Japan; brothers: Benjamin Franklin Kaskadden, Jr. (Frank) of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and Norman Eugene Fox of Turlock, California; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
