Anita Jeannine Smith was born May 23, 1948 in Sterling, Kansas to Ben and Coral (Caldwell) Smith.  Her childhood days were spent in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, where she received her primary education at Columbia School before graduating from University High School in1965. She continued her education at the University of Iowa and graduated from the College of Nursing in 1969 with a B.S.N. degree.

Anita worked on the men’s orthopedic ward at the University of Iowa Hospitals from 1969 to 1971. Many times she was the only R.N. caring for 25 to 30 patients. She then worked for two years as a Public Health Nurse in Johnson County, Iowa.

On December 20, 1969, Anita and Timothy Kent Daniels were united in marriage in O’Fallon, Illinois. To this union, five children were born:  Karen Cathleen, twin of Carrie Jeannine (1975), Kimberly Ellen (1977), Benjamin Harrison (1980) and Margaret Emily (1986).

Anita was a dedicated mother, Sunday School teacher, substitute school nurse, avid gardener and lover of flowers of every kind.  She enjoyed reading and following current world affairs. She and Tim thoroughly enjoyed attending their children’s music and sports activities together.

Anita was actively involved in the Oakdale Evangelical Free Church in rural Meriden, Iowa. For the past several years she served on the building committee for the new Oakdale facility. She enjoyed her duties and contributed as much as she could to the design of the building.  Beyond her family and church, Anita was a friend in the truest sense of the word to many. Her caring presence will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 36 years, Dr. Tim Daniels of Storm Lake; daughter Carrie (Jonathan) Dunnette of St. Paul, Minnesota; daughter Kimberly (Jonathan) Thorson of Brooklyn, New York; son Benjamin (Anne) Daniels of North Liberty, Iowa; daughter Margaret “Molly” Daniels of Storm Lake; one grandchild, Kieran Alethia Dunnette of St. Paul, Minnesota; mother Coral Smith of Bloomington, Illinois; sisters Cynthia (Rick) McVey and Wendy (Brad) Bareither, sisters-in-law Cherie (Rev. Richard) Heishman and Sheryl Daniels; brother-in-law Rev. Bryce Daniels; extended family and a host of friends.

Anita was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin C. Smith on September 21, 2005 and her infant daughter, Karen Cathleen on May 24, 1975.
