She graduated from Galva High School, where she loved playing basketball. Her family heard many stories about Lois’ basketball days in later years. Lois worked in Omaha, Nebraska as a waitress and at a dry cleaning store in Ida Grove, Iowa before she was married. On November 16, 1938, Lois was united in marriage to Robert Malcolm (Mal) Currie. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Lois and Mal lived and farmed at Schaller for most of their married life. Lois was a devoted wife and mother who cherished her family and was always thinking of them. Mal always said that no kids ever had a better mother. Lois enjoyed gardening and putting up her garden produce. She was a faithful member of the Schaller Presbyterian Church, where she liked attending services and participating in its activities. She was always happy if she could catch some Iowa basketball games on television. Mal and Lois enjoyed ballroom dancing very much.
