Jean Beekmann
Charlotte Jean Haarup was born on May 29, 1922 in Storm Lake, Iowa the daughter of James and Carrie Alda (Fultz) Haarup. She graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1938 and earned a two year teaching degree from Buena Vista College. She taught 3rd grade at Renwick School. Jean was united in marriage to Jay R. Beekmann on June 3, 1944 at Alexandria, Virginia. Jean taught school while Jay served in the Armed Forces, and the couple lived in Storm Lake from then on. Three children were born: Trudy, Barry, and Lonnie. Jean was a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church. She was active in PEO Sisterhood, Questors, and the Buena Vista Hospital Auxiliary. She loved her family, antiques, and collecting things. She is survived by a daughter Trudy and her husband Gary Lane, Castle Rock, CO; two sons: Barry and his wife Kris, Sioux City, Iowa and Lonnie and his wife Jane, Plantation, FL; eight grandchildren: Matthew Lane and his wife Lara, Michael Lane, Mitchell Lane and his wife Kimberly, Brock and Blake Beekmann, Joshua Beekmann and his wife Krista, Jennifer and Zackery Beekmann, and three great grandchildren: Allison Marie and Courtney Elizabeth Lane, and Maxwell Jay Lane. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Irma Haarup. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Jay, her parents, and two brothers: Virgil and Carroll. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. There will be no visitation. Memorial tributes may be donated to The American Cancer Society, or Hospice. |
