Hellen was born December 12, 1913 at Schaller, Iowa to Swan and Hilma (Bjurstrom) Johnson. She was baptized near Kiron at Bethel Church in 1914. In 1926, she was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller, where she was a member until the time of her death. Hellen received her education in the Schaller Community Schools, graduating from Schaller High School.

On March 9, 1936, Hellen was united in marriage to Carl William Boisen in Odebolt, Iowa. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Marilyn and Claris.

Hellen was a farm wife who loved her family and kept a warm and comfortable home for them. She enjoyed baking and sharing the resulting food with friends and family. She also liked to dance, quilt, crochet and play cards. She was a caretaker by nature and her gentle concern for the well-being of others, especially her family, will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Marilyn Palma of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Claris (Daylon) Wade of Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren: Darla (Jay) Iverson, Dawn Palma, Tom Wade and Steve Wade; great-grandchildren: Taylor, Morgan and Cassidy Long, Jakob Meyers, and Shelby, Hunter and Tanner Iverson; sister-in-law Eileen Johnson of Storm Lake, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Hellen was preceded in death by her parents, Swan and Hilma Johnson; her husband Carl in 1982; her brothers, Harold and wife Esther Johnson and Mayford Johnson; and her sister Mable and husband Floyd Alderson.
