Brian Gustafson

Brian Gustafson, age 61, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005 in Mesa, Arizona.

 

A Memorial Prayer Service will be held Friday, August 12, 2005 at 7:30 pm at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.  Reverend Dr. Beverlee Bell of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church will officiate.  Graveside rites and inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2005 in the Storm Lake Cemetery.  The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

 

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. that same night, Friday, August 12th at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present.

 

Brian was born August 12, 1943 to Floyd and Wanda (Cress) Gustafson in San Jose, California.  After the family moved back to Iowa, Brian attended grade school in Sulphur Springs, Iowa and then graduated from Storm Lake High School with the Class of 1961.  Brian received his undergraduate degree at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, his Masters in Education from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and his Doctorate of Philosophy in Administration and Curriculum from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Brian believed in education and the difference it could make in the life of every child. He was active and involved in state education associations, including the Iowa Educational Research and Evaluation Association, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Iowa Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, School Administrators of Iowa and National Association of Elementary School Principals. He worked in education and school administration until his retirement in 2001.

Brian enjoyed traveling, liked to fly and sail. He was a voracious reader.  He took pleasure in cooking a meal for himself or to share with family and friends.  Brian loved his dogs. He enjoyed the outdoors and camping.  He was a light in the lives of those who knew and loved him and will be missed dearly.

Left to cherish his memory are his father, Floyd Gustafson of Storm Lake; brother Steve and wife Janelle of Storm Lake; sister Jan and husband Frank Klahs of Storm Lake; nieces, nephews and extended family, as well as a host of colleagues and friends.

Brian was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Gustafson.
