Albert “Roy” Moore

Albert “Roy” Moore, age 80, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Thursday, August 4, 2005 in Storm Lake.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 6, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call anytime after 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2005 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where there will be a Vigil Service at 3:30 and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00.

Roy was born December 7, 1924 in Bagley, Iowa to Oscar and Mary (Lane) Moore. The family moved to Glidden, Iowa in 1938. He attended school in a country school and later at Glidden School.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving from 1943-46 at Hickam Air Field at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. During his duty, Roy took part in the Pacific Theatre and was a Sergeant of the Anti-aircraft artillery battery.

On January 15, 1947 he was united in marriage to Darlene A. Reiling at St. Frances of Assissi Church in Maple River, Iowa with Reverend Father Peter Maltes officiating.

They lived in Glidden and he worked in Carroll, Iowa for Lockhart Company, McCarville Pontiac Garage and Studebaker Garage, before moving to Storm Lake in 1952. He worked for Peterson Motor Company until 1967 when he started his own shop (Roy’s Auto Service). He retired in 1992.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served as usher and money counter for many years. He was a member of the K.C. #2326 and The 4th Degree Rosatic Assembly Knights of Columbus. He served as Grand Knight from 1982—84 and Faithful Navigator from 1980—1981. He was a pilot and belonged to the Flying Club for years; he owned his own plane for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Mary; and brothers, Larry and Charles.

Survivors include his wife of more than 58 years, Darlene of Storm Lake; five daughters: Shirley and husband Tom Boje of Omaha, Nebraska, Irene and husband Dan Jensen of Omaha, Nebraska, Phyllis and husband Ron Roelfs of Waverly, Iowa, Pat and husband Dave Kastengren of Cherokee, Iowa, Tracey and husband Dave Plorins of Waukee, Iowa; three sons: Richard and wife Patti of Storm Lake, Michael and wife Susan of Carroll, Ken and special friend Sabrina of Storm Lake; 18 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; two sisters: Juanita and husband Merle Gilroy of Jefferson, Iowa and Jean and husband Delbert Patrick of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters-in-law Vera Moore of Thousand Oaks, California and Margaret Moore of Giltner, Nebraska; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
