Oren R. Pollard was born October 17, 1921 to Oren M. and Gertrude (White) Pollard of Nehawka, Nebraska. He was confirmed in the Methodist Church and graduated from Nehawka High School in 1938. After graduation, he attended the Lincoln School of Commerce, then returned to join the family farming operation.

In September of 1945, he was married to Kathleen Nolte of Plattsmouth, Nebraska. They always wanted to own their own farm, and in 1947, while visiting relatives near Schaller, they found and later purchased a farm south of Schaller. They moved there in February of 1948, bringing with them their one-year-old daughter, Kathie. While living on the farm they had two additional girls, Barbara and Robin. The couple lived on this farm their entire lives.

Oren farmed until his retirement several years ago. He and Kathleen were busy year-round with crops and all types of livestock. He prided himself in the diversity and high quality of the livestock operation. He enjoyed competing in livestock shows in Iowa and many surrounding states. Oren and Kathleen were 4-H leaders for many years. Oren was also a Pioneer seed salesman.

Oren enjoyed memberships in agricultural organizations, social groups, the Methodist Church and was always active in the sports activities of his children and grandchildren. He also made time to take the family on summer vacations or travel to exotic locations with friends. He enjoyed making new friends through golfing and bowling.

Oren is survived by Kathleen, his wife of 57 years; his daughters: Kathie (James) Mailander of Wiota, Iowa, Barbara (James) Watson of Schaller, Iowa and Robin (Richard) Boyle of Olympia, WA; seven grandchildren: Chris (Elizabeth) Mailander, Sara (Jaime) Capella of Washington, DC, John Mailander of Carroll, IA, Jill (Jon) Swanson of Boise, ID, Adam Watson and fiancé Christi Diesing of Omaha, NE, Philip and Daniel Swenson of Olympia, WA; two great-grandsons: Connor Mailander and Andrew Swanson; brothers: Malcom Pollard of Nehawka, NE, and Arthur (Norma) Pollard of Wayne, NE; sister Imogene Bruce of Lincoln, NE; and many other relatives and friends.
