Merle Yearous

Merle Yearous, age 69, of Holstein, Iowa died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at the Holstein Good Samaritan Center.

Memorial Services will be Friday, July 30, 2004 at 10:30 at the Galva United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery at Balaton, Minnesota. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

A time of gathering will be held at the Galva United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 29, 2004, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Merle Marie Elizabeth Huck was born October 26, 1934 to Clarence Andrew and Irene Agnes (Meyer) Huck at Alma, Iowa. She was baptized at her parents’ home on August 11, 1935 and confirmed in St. Peter Lutheran Church in Alma. Merle spent her childhood in her parents’ home in Howard County, Iowa where she attended school, until the family moved to Russell, Minnesota in 1951.

On April 26, 1959, Merle was united in marriage to Gene Albion Yearous at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Balaton, Minnesota. Three children blessed their union: Bradley, Jackie and Gena. Merle and Gene celebrated 45 wonderful years together in April this year. They are members of Galva United Methodist Church.

Merle was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother who spent many happy years making a warm and comfortable home for her family, whom she treasured. Of course, she delighted in her grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. In her spare time, Merle enjoyed bowling and dancing. She liked to spend time outdoors in her garden and spent many an hour watching and feeding her feathered friends. She was especially happy to spot cardinals, as they were her favorite birds.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gene of Holstein; son, Bradley and wife Julie (Kalin) Yearous of Galva; daughters: Jackie Yearous of Holstein and Gena Yearous of Balaton, Minnesota; grandchildren: Amy Yearous, Jason Yearous, Mallory Yearous, Kyle Yearous, Katie Yearous, Maggie Yearous and Lauren Yearous; one brother, Clarence and wife Mary Ann Huck of Russell, Minnesota one sister, Marjorie and husband Russell Mathews of Canby, Minnesota; and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Preceding Merle in death were her parents; her older sister, Margaret Anderson; and an infant granddaughter, Elizabeth Yearous.
