Khoune Kavan

Khoune Kavan, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.

Buddhist Rites for Mr. Kavan will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Khoune Kavan was born in Vietnam on January 20, 1911 to Mr. Anh and Mrs. Kathi Kavan. He lived with his parents in Sonla, Vietnam as a child, attending school there through the 6th grade.

Mr. Kavan served as a Sergant with French troops in Vietnam from 1929 to 1937. In 1937 he was married to Mouan Kathi in Sonla, Vietnam. He was the Mayor of Mei City on Sonla, Vietnam before coming to the United States.

Mr. Kavan enjoyed the arts. He retired in 1979 and lived at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake. He was a member of the Southeast Asian Church in Storm Lake.

Survivors include three sons: Edward and his wife Da Kavan, Tony and his wife Sone Kavan and Reno Kavan; a daughter: Vieng Kathi and her husband Som; a brother, Kan Kavan of Laos; grandchildren: Kheunmalay and her husband Mesa, Arron, Amanda, Malisa, Arissa, Marvin, Jesse and Samantha Kavan; and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Kavan was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mouan Kathi.
