Kamma Duitsman

Kamma Duitsman, age 84, of Arthur, Iowa, died at her home in rural Arthur on Monday, October 4, 2004.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, with Reverend Paul Johnston officiating. Burial will be in the Newell cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Kamma Margarethe Nielsen was born April 27, 1920 in Nr. Vium, Denmark to Kristen and Margarethe (Hustedt) Nielsen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran religion in her hometown in Denmark. She spent her childhood in Denmark and received her education there. Kamma then worked in Copenhagen as a seamstress during World War II.

Kamma journeyed to the United States as a young woman, arriving in New York City on June 30, 1947. She came to the Newell area and worked as a housekeeper for her brother, Jens, until marrying Robert Duitsman in Fort Dodge, Iowa on November 28, 1950. Their union was blessed with three sons: Kurt, Thomas and Thorben.

Kamma was a homemaker and devoted mother who loved making a warm and comfortable home for her family. She enjoyed sewing and liked to garden. Kamma enjoyed people and especially liked visiting with friends and family on Sunday afternoons, creating many fond Danish memories that remained dear to her.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Arthur; her three sons: Kurt Duitsman of Arthur, Thomas and wife Leanne Duitsman of Boone, Iowa and Thorben and wife Cindy Duitsman of Sac City, Iowa; her two granddaughters: Jennifer and Stephanie Duitsman; and other relatives and many friends.

Preceding Kamma in death were her parents; brothers Hans Nielsen and Jens Nielsen; and sisters Astrid Rasmusen, Ragnhild Wilms, Anna Rasmusen, Kirstine Pedersen and Karen Pedersen.
