As a child, she lived in her parents home, first in Hutchinson, Kansas and then in Holstein, where Eileen graduated from Holstein High School in 1938. On September 14, 1942, Eileen was united in marriage to Harold A. Brenner in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Their union was blessed with five sons: Stephen, Allen, Dennis, Douglas and Robert; and a daughter, Nancy. Eileen and Harold moved to their farm near Schaller in 1943, where Eileen made a warm and comfortable home for her family. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, who treasured the time she spent with her family and friends. Eileen had a “green thumb” and enjoyed gardening, and canning the bounty she produced. You could count on her having baked something delicious—cookies were a favorite, especially her “no bake” cookies—which she gladly shared with anyone visiting. She had a good and kind heart; she took care of everyone she met, even the stray animals that she fed. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Stephen and wife Bonnie Brenner of Sitka, Alaska, Allen Brenner and wife Fonda of Mesa, Arizona, Dennis and wife Lori Brenner of Chandler, Arizona, Douglas and wife Jackie Brenner of Peoria, Arizona, Robert Brenner of Schaller, Iowa, and Nancy Haukap of Sioux City, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends. Preceding Eileen in death were her parents, her husband, Harold, and a grandson, Nathan Haukap. |
