Arthur Gustav Soellner was born November 23, 1925 in Galva, Iowa to Walter and Caroline (Paulsen) Soellner. He lived with his family in rural Galva, where he attended and graduated from Galva High School in 1943.

Art was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Galva, where he had held the office of Trustee.

From 1944—1946, Art served his country with honor in the United States Navy with overseas duty in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific. His time was spent aboard the Navy battleship, USS Washington.

Art was united in marriage to Beverly Huseman on November 28, 1948. To this union three sons and three daughters were born: Doug, Brian, Dan, Vicki, Sue and Becky. Art’s life was the farm, but his love was his family.

Following Art’s honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked as a hired hand on farms in the Galva area before starting to farm for himself. He never retired from farming because of his love of the land. Art also enjoyed fishing, bowling, woodworking, attending grandchildren’s activities, gardening, playing cards and cribbage. He was active in his community for his entire life, serving on the Galva Union Elevator board, as a member of the Galva American Legion, and a life-long member of the Schaller VFW.

Art is survived by his sons: Doug (Sheila) Soellner of Galva, Brian (Rae) Soellner of Galva, Dan (Barb) Soellner of Storm Lake; daughters: Vicki (Jim) Woods, Jr. of Galva, Sue (Mark) Gray of Denison, and Becky (Rusty) Neely of Vancouver, Washington; mother-in-law, Gladys Huseman of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Chad (Lori) Woods, Nicole Woods, Casey Woods, Kent (Lynelle) Soellner, Kurt Soellner, Megan Soellner, Wes (Kendra) Gray, Jennifer Gray, Chris Gray, Tana Radke, Kelsey Radke, Keely Soellner, Abbi Soellner and Bethany Soellner; great grandchildren: Elizabeth and Max Arthur Woods; sisters: Lorene Anderson of Pocahontas, Emily Goettsch of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; brothers and sisters-in-law: Harold and Joan Brownmiller of Aurelia, Duane and Lucille Kent of Aurelia, Gilbert and Sharon Huseman of Muscatine, as well as a host of other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, in 1999; his parents; brothers-in-law, Eldon Anderson and Elvin Goettsch; and father-in-law, Martin Huseman.
