Almeda Oberg
Mrs. Oberg was born December 22, 1910 in Washta, Iowa, the daughter of Iphegena and Hilda (Bring) Soper. Almeda and her family came to Silver City in 1944. She taught in public schools over forty years, most years as a ninth grade English teacher at Stout and La Plata Junior High School. She was very active in her professional organizations at the local, state and national levels, receiving honors in each area. She was inducted into the Southwest District Hall of Fame in 1978. Mrs. Oberg belonged to and/or held office in these organizations: First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Kappa Kappa Iota and Delta Kappa Gamma. Left to cherish her memory are two sons: Harold Oberg and his wife Greta of Silver City and Carl Oberg and his wife Charlotte of Mimbres, NM; grandsons: Rick Oberg and his wife Lyla of Silver City, Troy Oberg and his wife Laura of Tucson, AZ, Todd Oberg and his wife Christine of Albuquerque; granddaughter Sharolyn Roberts and her husband Gary of Silver City; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Almeda in death were her parents; her husband, Ernest L. Oberg; infant brother, Ransom; brother, John Hawthorne Soper; and one sister, Carrie Ann Soper. |
