Ruth F. Britt

Ruth F. Britt, age 94, of Storm Lake passed away Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake, Iowa with the Reverend Jim Hofman officiating.

Visitation will begin Monday, at noon prior to service time at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth Florence Wenell was born on January 25, 1909, to Carl and Ida (Ross) Wenell in Albert City, Iowa. Ruth grew up on the family farm and attended country school. She worked on the farm and for other people until her marriage. She was the tenth child of eleven children.

Ruth married W. Lonnie Britt on November 3, 1928. They lived in Albert City and moved to a farm in the area. Eventually, they farmed in the Linn Grove, Iowa, area until moving to Storm Lake in 1957. Ruth worked at Constable Drug Store until going to Lee’s Variety Store. She retired from there as the manager of the store.

The greatest joy for Ruth was having the children, grandchildren, and the great-grandchildren in her home. She enjoyed making quilts, sewing, and crocheting for the family. She and Lonnie lived at their home in Storm Lake until they were no longer able to live on their own. They moved to Methodist Manor at that time.

Ruth is survived by daughter, Ilona and husband LaVerne Koster of Chester; daughter Eleanor and husband Harold Engen of Iowa City; daughter Deloris Britt of Storm Lake; daughter Shirley Britt of Fairmont, MN; daughter-in-law Darlene Britt of Alexandria, MN; sisters-in-law Lucy Walker of Monticello, KY and Mae Lovell of Rockford IL; plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Lonnie; her son, William J.; grandson, Donald Koster; great-grandson, Trevor Huntley; her parents, grandparents, siblings and spouses.
