Mabel Grieme Mabel Grieme, age 86, of Schaller, died March 25, 2003 at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be Friday, March 28th at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller with Reverend David Hagen officiating. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Thursday, March 27th from 4-8 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller with the family present to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Mabel F. Young was born May 11, 1916 on a farm near Galva, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Mary (Bennett) Young. She attended school in Galva, graduating from Galva High School on May 22, 1935. Following graduation, Mabel attended the Business School of Sioux City. On March 23, 1939 Mabel was united in marriage to Erwin Grieme at the St. John Parsonage in Alta, Iowa. To this union, four children were born, Ronald, Larry, Richard and Mayrean. Mabel was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller. She was an active Ladies Aid member and held many offices. She also taught Sunday School for many years and was secretary for AAL for a number of years. Mabel was baptized June 13, 1920 at the Methodist Church in Galva and confirmed April 5, 1940 at St. John Lutheran Church in Galva. Mabel worked at the ASCS offices in Ida Grove and Cherokee. Then she did secretarial work in Des Moines until she was married and became a farmwife. Mabel enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, doing yard work, sewing and crafts. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and raising a variety of chickens, peacocks, pheasants, and guineas. Her family has fond memories of Mabel chasing chickens out of her strawberry patch, trapping pocket gophers with the grandkids, and raising baby raccoons. Survivors include her three sons: Ronald Grieme and wife Karen of Schaller, Larry Grieme and wife Susan of Schaller, and Richard Grieme of Adel, Iowa; daughter Mayrean McDonough and husband Dean of Marble Falls, Texas; grandchildren: Kathryn Johnson and husband Kent of Akron, Kevin Grieme and wife Brenda of Lawton, Deborah Ayers and husband Kelvin of Parker, Colorado, Jodi Engstrom and husband Chris of Phoenix, Arizona, Kent Grieme and wife Sherrie of Schaller, Evan Grieme of Ames, Cindy Struchen and husband Mike of Marble Falls, Texas, Marcia Bible and husband Gavin of Marble Falls, Texas, Carla Schnitz and husband Chad of Marble Falls, Texas, Amanda Grieme of Des Moines, and Ashlee Grieme of Adel; seventeen great grandchildren; brother, James Young and wife Carolyn of Galva; sister, Esther Kessler and husband Hubert of Galva; sister-in-law Birdella Brostad and husband Robert of Galva; and other extended family members and friends. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Young; her husband, Erwin Grieme; brother, Raymond Young; nephew, Bob Young; and great granddaughter, Kelli Johnson. |
