Loretta M. Schott

Loretta M. Schott, age 89 of Early passed away at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa on Sunday, March 23, 2003, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Thursday, March 27, 2003 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early with Reverend Timothy Schott officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Early, Iowa. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will begin at 5:30 pm, Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early with a vigil service at 7:00 pm.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Early or Briar Cliff University Scholarship Fund.

Loretta M. McKenna was born March 15, 1914, on a farm north of Early, Iowa to John and Alma (Smith) McKenna. The family resided in rural Early. She attended and graduated from Sacred Heart School in Early. Following graduation, Loretta attended Briar Cliff College where she earned her two year teaching degree in 1934. She later went on to attend Buena Vista College to complete her four year degree.

Prior to marriage, Loretta was a teacher in rural schools around Early and in Sulphur Springs.

On June 17, 1938, Loretta was united in marriage to Louis Schott at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. This union was blessed with five children, John, Ted, Max, Timothy, and Diane. She taught in the Newell Special Education Program and Sac City Work Study Program, retiring in 1978.

Loretta was a life long member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early where she had earlier received her baptism and confirmation. She was devoted to her Catholic faith, to her husband and family, and to the value of learning.

Loretta is survived by her sons: John and Judy (Scharfenkamp) Schott of Raleigh, North Carolina; Max and Molly (Morgan) Schott of Des Moines, Iowa; and Father Timothy Schott of Carroll, Iowa; daughter, Diane and Henry Evans of Chewelah, Washington; brothers: James F. McKenna and Donald McKenna; sister, Margery Parrott; grandchildren: Karen Price, Susan Harrell, Nancy Schott, Michael Schott, Max Schott II, Heidi Carsello, Bridget Hrabe, Maggie Evans, and Benjamin Evans; great-grandchildren: Alyssa Price, Lauren Price, Kristen Price, Courtney Harrell, Adam Harrell, Sophia Schott, Linnea Schott, and Oscar Hrabe; and other extended family and friends.

Preceding Loretta in death are her parents, her husband, Louis H. Schott (December 23, 1988); son, Ted Schott (September 23, 1942); and brothers J. Melvin and Bernard McKenna.
