Joan B. Vilas
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 22nd at 10:30 a.m. at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jamie Cutler officiating. Entombment will be in the Vilas Family Mausoleum at Storm Lake Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home on Monday after 2 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Joan Beth Mummert was born March 7, 1927 at home in Afton Township, Cherokee County, Iowa the daughter of Troy and Grace (Huff) Mummert. She began her education attending country school and graduated from Aurelia High School with the class of 1944. She married Wilbert Dale Vilas on February 4, 1948 at the Storm Lake United Methodist Church. Joan was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, Lake Creek Country Club, she was active in the Buena Vista County Hospital Auxiliary, the Shrine Auxiliary and the Republican Party. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bridge and doing needlepoint. Joan and Willie wintered with friends in Florida for 28 years. Survivors include her husband Wilbert, Storm Lake, two daughters; Nicki McKenna and her husband, Ed, Storm Lake, Mikki Belson, Holstein, a son, Douglas Vilas, Tampa, Florida, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, her brother, Billie Mummert, Cherokee and numerous other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Dale. |
