Harold W. Matthaidess Harold W. Matthaidess, age 88, of Early, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, Storm Lake, Iowa. Harold was born August 16, 1914, at Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Reverend G.A. and Louise (Seisler) Matthaidess. He attended school in Sioux City graduating in 1932 from Central High School. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Early, Iowa. Harold and Pauline Strohbehn were united in marriage on January 22, 1940, in a ceremony performed by Harold’s father. In 1943 they moved to Early and in 1946 Harold purchased, from his brother Otto, Matt’s Tourist Court, Service Station and Café which was the first of its kind in Early and which he operated until his retirement in 1977. Following his retirement, he worked at Spring Lake Golf Course and helped his sons with their quarter horses. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed painting and drawing. Harold is survived by his sons: Richard Matthaidess and his wife Vicki of Early, IA, and Lyn Matthaidess and his wife Rita of Adel, IA; four grandchildren: Chad and his wife Lori, Tim and his wife Sheri, Troy and Luke; four great-grandchildren: Bailey, Hannah, Jake and Cole; sister-in-law Venita Matthaidess; and brother-in-law Bernell Strohbehn and his wife Donna. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Pauline September 23, 1978; four brothers: Paul, Otto, Edwin, and Enno; and two sisters: Isma Kyle and Wilma Smith. |
