Elwayne L. Madsen

Elwayne L. Madsen, age 68, of Schaller, Iowa passed away Thursday, May 29, 2003 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 31, 2003 at the United Methodist Church in Schaller, Iowa with Reverend Carol Gailey officiating. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Schaller.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2003 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller where the family will be present to greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Elwayne was born August 5, 1934 to Leroy and Elsie (Carstens) Madsen in Battle Township, Ida County, Iowa. He was baptized on December 19, 1937 in the Ida Grove Methodist Church. Elwayne graduated from Galva High School, Galva, Iowa in May 1953.

On January 16, 1954 he was united in marriage to Joan Jane Archer at Varina, Iowa. They became parents of one son, William Leroy. The couple started their home in Storm Lake, Iowa. Then moved to Battle Creek, Galva, and rural Ida Grove, Iowa where they farmed for 3 years. In October 1958, they moved to Schaller where Elwayne became employed by Central Popcorn Company. Later known as Consolidated Popcorn Co. for almost 30 years. He spent 8 years in Army National Guard-Ida Grove.

When he retired, he worked part-time as a Tender Truck driver for Rod's Fertilizer & Sales in Galva, Iowa.

He enjoyed spending time with his son and wife Susan and grandchildren Chris and Nicole.

Elwayne and Joan enjoyed dancing and traveling and making friends. He always took good care of his vehicles and enjoyed helping his son on the farm.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; son William and Susan, Galva, Iowa; grandson Christian and Jeni Madsen, Schaller, Iowa; granddaughter Nicole and Benjamin Huisinga, Jewell, Iowa; brothers-in-law and their wives: John and Esther Archer, Diboll, Texas, William and Betty Archer, Schaller, Iowa, and Lyle and Mary Archer, Council Bluffs, Iowa; and sister-in-law and her husband Jeanne and Ray Garrett, Denver, Colorado. Also surviving Elwayne are several nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends as well as a special aunt and uncle Sis and Al Madsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Delores Vogler, nieces Nancy and Tina Vogler, nephew Richard Vogler, grandparents, parents-in-law, brothers-in-law Robert, Evans, Charles, Benjamin and Thomas Archer, and sister-in-law Alice Archer.

Elwayne will be missed by his family and many friends.
