Eric Jensen
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 29, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. There will be Full Military Rites by the Newell American Legion Post #193. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Eric M. Jensen was born on September 17, 1930 to Einar and Elsie (Magelssen) Jensen at Newell, Iowa. He was baptized in Rushford, MN, and later confirmed at Nain Lutheran at Newell. Eric spent his childhood years with his parents on their farm outside of Newell. He attended school in the Newell-Providence school system, where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1948. Eric enlisted in the service on January 11, 1951 and served as a Sergeant with the 596th Sig spt Company for two years in Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on December 16, 1953. On May 28, 1955 Eric was united in marriage to Elise Stoltenberg in San Francisco, California. This union was blessed with a daughter, Eileen. The Jensens also enjoyed having a foreign exchange student, Tuomo Mörä from Finland, for one year from August 1979 through August 1980. Eric spent most of his life as a farmer, working the land until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, where he served as a former church treasurer. Eric enjoyed woodworking and built custom cabinets in many homes in Newell. He was an outgoing person who liked to be around people, and enjoyed having coffee and socializing at the local elevator coop. Eric loved his family and cherished every moment he could spend with them. His family loved him and will miss him daily. Survivors include his wife Elise of Newell; his daughter Eileen and husband Kurt Wilson of Bellevue, NE; grandchildren Christina and Robert Wilson, “adopted” son Tuomo Mörä of Finland, and many other relatives and friends. Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Einar and Elsie Jensen. |
