Darrell D. 'Andy' Anderson

Darrell D. 'Andy' Anderson, age 79, of Schaller, Iowa passed away March 5, 2003 following a lengthy illness.

Services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2003 at the United Methodist Church in Schaller at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery with military graveside honors by the Schaller V.F.W. Post #4704. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Darrell was born in Battle Creek, Iowa, August 8, 1923, to Glen W. and Alta Mae (Bradshaw) Anderson. He lived with his parents in Kiron as a young boy where he began attending grade school. His father’s job as a depot agent, meant the family moved to various communities in Northwest Iowa before settling in Schaller. He graduated from the Schaller High School with the class of 1940. He then went on to attend Berkley Junior College before being drafted into the Army. While in the Army, Andy joined the U.S. AirCorp, where he was a B-29 Tailgunner.

He married Marguerite Martin on December 29, 1946, at the United Methodist Church in Schaller. To this union, three children were born.

Andy and Marguerite moved to Kansas City shortly after they were wed, and while there he attended television maintenance school. Returning to Schaller in 1947, they opened Andy’s Café and owned and operated the restaurant for 42 years before retiring in October of 1988.

Darrell enjoyed reading, hunting, and was an occasional fisherman. He loved to play cards, enjoying the time he spent playing penny poker with his family.

He is survived by his wife Marguerite of Schaller; a son, Tim Anderson of Schaller; two daughters, Rita Brown and husband John of Kenyon, MN and Candace Dixon of Hutchinson, KS; seven grandchildren, Ian and Spencer Dixon, Mallory and Matthew Anderson, Shannon Pounds and husband Terry, and Kelsey and Erin Brown; one great grandchild, Brennan Pounds; an uncle Reed Bradshaw from Battle Creek, IA; many cousins and other extended family members and friends.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents.
