| William "Bill" Lewis, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at his home in Storm Lake.
William Frank Lewis was born on March 9, 1923 in Pomeroy, Iowa to Leslie and Edna (Long) Lewis. He was baptized at the Evangelical Covenant Church in rural Pomeroy where he was later confirmed. Bill graduated from Pomeroy high school and attended Iowa State and Buena Vista University. Bill joined the United States Army on November 27, 1942. He served in World War II in a Reconnaissance Unit in the 14th Armored Division in France and Germany. While in the Army, Bill earned two Bronze Service Stars, a Bronze Star Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal when he was honorably discharged on July 31, 1946. On December 10, 1949, Bill was united in marriage to Violet Christoffers at the Evangelical Covenant Church in rural Pomeroy. Together they were blessed with three children: Kathleen, Virginia, and W. Scott. Bill was in agriculture and sales throughout his career. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and loved drawing. He attended the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake and the Evangelical Covenant Church in rural Pomeroy. Bill’s greatest joy was spending time with Violet, family and friends. Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Kathleen (Keith) Jorgensen of Bertrand, Missouri; Virginia (James) Hamilton of Des Moines, Iowa; W. Scott (Dicksie) Lewis of Las Vegas, Nevada; his grandchildren: Andrea Yager of Des Moines, Iowa; Maija Jorgensen of Greenfield, Iowa; Nicholas Jorgensen of Spirit Lake, Iowa; James Hamilton III of Des Moines, Iowa; William F. Hamilton of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Jake and Joel Lewis of Las Vegas, Nevada; his great grandchildren: Erica Yager of Des Moines, Iowa; Elik and Eliana Mattis of Des Moines; Elle Jorgensen of Greenfield, Iowa; his brother, Don (Marlys) Lewis of Manson, Iowa; his sister, Edna (Jerry) Yocum of Algona, Iowa; his sisters-in-law: Vivian Christoffers of Pocahontas, Iowa; Fran Lewis of Pocahontas, Iowa; and Esther Wenell of Albert City, Iowa; his nieces and nephews; extended family, neighbors and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Violet; his parents, Leslie and Edna; Violet’s parents, Erick and Tillie Christoffers; his brother, Harold Lewis; brothers-in-law: Kenneth Christoffers and Paul Wenell.
